With our recent project funding from Bergen Research Foundation (see here) we are now expanding. This is an exciting opportunity for us to attract engaged and enthusiastic academics to work on urban climate and energy transformation – and for you to be part of a dynamic group. We have open calls for four positions: 1 postdoc, 2 PhD fellows and a research assistant (Norwegian language skills are required for the research assistant position).

 

Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Geographies of Climate and Energy Transformation

The postdoctoral fellow will form part of SpaceLab, and contribute to the group’s research agenda by conducting a research project on the geographies of climate and energy transformation. Relevant project proposals will examine social, political, economic or environmental aspects of climate and energy transitions and transformations. The empirical context should be Europe.

Funding for the postdoctoral position comes from the Akademia agreement between the University of Bergen and Statoil, and from the Bergen Research Foundation.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must hold a PhD within human geography or equivalent and must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded.
  • Work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate with others.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English.

About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. The fixed-term period for this position is 3 years. Individuals may not be hired for more than one fixed-term period as a postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution.

  • Salary at pay grade 57(code 1352) on the government salary scale upon appointment (equivalent to NOK 482 800,- per year). Further promotions are made according to length of service in the position.

  • A project proposal (5-8 pages) explaining the intended theoretical contributions of the project, as well as the methodological foundations and the plans for empirical data collection.
  • A brief account of the applicant’s research interests and motivation for applying for the position.
  • The names and contact information for two reference persons. One of these must be the main advisor from the PhD programme.
  • CV including a list of publications
  • Transcripts and diplomas and official confirmation that the doctoral thesis has been submitted.
  • Relevant certificates/references.
  • Up to five scientific publications

2 PhD positions – Urban climate and energy transformations

The PhD fellows will form part of the Bergen Research Foundation-funded project European cities as actors in climate and energy transformations. The project looks at how European cities can contribute to climate and energy transformation. Research within the project consists of examining the flow of policy ideas in inter-city networks and the implementation of policy in specific cities in Europe.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in Geography. Similar and equivalent degrees will also be considered. The degree has to be completed by the application deadline
  • The requirements are generally a grade B or better on Master thesis and for the Master degree in total
  • As an applicant you should be able to work independently and have the ability to cooperate with others
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English
    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview.

About the PhD positions:

The duration of the PhD position is 4 years, of which 25 per cent of the time comprises obligatory duties associated with research, teaching and dissemination of results. The employment period for the successful candidate may be reduced if he or she previously has been employed in a PhD position. As a PhD research fellow you will take part in the doctoral educational programme at UoB. .

We can offer:

Salary at pay grade 50 upon appointment (Code 1017) on the government salary scale (equivalent to NOK 429 700,- per year. Further promotions are made according to length of service in the position

Vitskapleg assistent ved Institutt for geografi

Ved Institutt for geografi Universitetet i Bergen, er det ledig ei stilling som vitskapleg assistent for ein periode på 1 år.

Vitskapleg assistent er ei rekrutteringsstilling der hovudoppgåva er å vere ein støttespelar for den vitskaplege staben i deira undervisnings- og forskingsverksemd. Stillinga skal gi høve til innsikt i vitskapleg arbeid og metode. Samla tilsetjingstid kan ikkje overstige to år.

Arbeidsoppgåver

Spaces of Climate and Energy Lab (SpaceLab) http://spacelab.w.uib.no er ei forskargruppe ved Institutt for geografi som forskar på samanhengen mellom klima, energi og samfunn. Gruppa har nylig fått tilført ressursar blant anna gjennom finansiering frå Bergen Forskingsstiftelse.

Vi søkar ein forskingsassistent som kan bidra til oppbygginga av forskingsgruppa. Arbeidsoppgåver vil i hovudsak være:

  • Datainnsamling, som intervjuar og surveyer
  • Bidra til å organisere seminar og møter
  • Oppdatering av webside
  • Administrasjon av forskingsgruppas prosjekter

Kvalifikasjonar

  • Mastergrad i samfunnsvitskap, gjerne geografi
  • Grunnleggande kjennskap til samfunnsvitskaplege metodar
  • God språkkunnskap i engelsk og norsk, munnleg og skriftlig
